Disclaimer: While this might be controversial, I have no intention of being against anyone. It's meant for learning and discussion purposes.
Finally, retroPGF has ended whew! In the end, it went much better anticipated. That aside, retroPGF can be even better next time.
Badgeholders play an important role in distributing retroPGF, which is a significant engine driving Optimism.
And RetroPGF values both technical and non-technical contributions, so balancing badge holders is Essential. While tech expertise is likely a priority in Optimism, non-tech is equally important.
Badgeholders - Where are they from?
Let's take a look on how we distributed badgeholders role so far.
We still dont know the top 50 of retroPGF3 yet. But when sorted by ballots. We can see almost all of them are tech projects.
If this keeps going, we'll have stronger developers in the badgeholder army, but less voice for user adoption and governance.
The right balance not only makes reviewing retroPGF participants easier but also plays an important role in OP distribution.
We can see that the approach for retroPGF4 should differ from retroPGF3.
Another thing worth mentioning.
Dev & Marketing.
Educators understand the necessity of technology to develop exceptional projects—after all, how else would they educate?
However, developers might overlook the importance of adoption.
We observe numerous tech-focused lists allocating all 30 OP to technical projects without considering Collective Governance or End-User Experience & Adoption at all.
We won't see a list distributing 30 million OP solely for educators, or educators with 200,000 OP allocations.
ETH & OP Stack chains:
While contributing to ETH and other OP stack chains is great. In retroPGF3, many projects on Optimism had hard time getting enough vote.
Sonne finance, Subli, and several others reached 17 ballots just before the deadline. Despite meeting the quorum later, this situation can be distressing and highly discouraging for people.
We might need to check balance between many chains on the ecosystem too.
I hope this analysis can assist with future retroPGFs. My opinion might be wrong. What's do you guys think? Please leave comment below.
Lastly, Stay Optimistic! 🔴🔴
